Tama New Town has some 330 hectares of parks and green areas. There is twice as much park space per resident as Tokyo . 11.6 ㎡ of park area per resident makes Tama New Town a national leader in green urban spaces.   The parks double as evacuation areas in the case of a natural disaster such as a major earthquake. Emergency supplies are stored in the parks for relief during a disaster.   ㎡/Resident   Tama New Town has two general hospitals and seven clinics. There are 14 large supermarkets and department stores within walking distance of the residential area. Pedestrian walkways connect the main areas, creating a safe environment for children.
